Vladimir Putin, born on October 7, 1952, in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia, has been a pivotal figure in Russian politics for multiple decades. His journey includes service as an officer in the Soviet Union’s intelligence agency, the KGB, before making the transition to a career in politics.
Putin initiated his political trajectory in the 1990s during President Boris Yeltsin’s administration, assuming diverse roles, including Deputy Mayor of St. Petersburg. His ascendancy gained momentum as he assumed the position of Prime Minister, eventually stepping into the role of Acting President in 1999, succeeding Yeltsin. Subsequently, he secured the presidency in 2000 and held office for two terms until 2008.
